The Company was formed in 1984 by Mr Steve Chambers and was originally situated on the Newcastle Airport Industrial Estate, as a car repair and recovery business, with just two vehicles for courtesy use. In 1996 the company branched out into van hire, and then in 2000 moved to purpose built premises in Kenton Bank Foot, and AM Hire now boasts a fleet of more than 250 vehicles. The next step in this success story is a new branch in Gateshead, opened January 2007. AM Hire are a small independent company with a big heart. At AM Hire you will find a pleasant friendly atmosphere without the hard sell factor of most hire companies. The staff are friendly, warming and will give a professional quality service. Customers return to AM Hire because if friendly service and good quality vehicles at a very competitive prices. All these things make them feel like the valued customers they are. In 1997 AM Hire realised that large hire companies were buying vehicles at a far bigger discount due to the quantities they bought and joined the United Rental Group. United is a group of 350 independent small companies, who together have a huge need for vehicles, and can demand higher discounts than they could on their own. These discounts can make a smaller firm like AM Hire, more competitive, and ensure they can afford to change vehicles regularly, keeping the fleet new, smart and safe. AM Hire have a fleet of cars ranging from the small Ford Ka through to the Mercedes E Class, and a host of people carriers, from seven to seventeen seaters. The fleet is changed regularly to bring the latest models and the best prices to the customer. Our commercial fleet consists of large Luton Box Vans, with electric tail lifts, which are excellent for large house moves or for more bulky items, down to the smallest car derived van like the Citreon Berlingo or the Ford Connect. In Between, AM Hire has the ever reliable Ford Transit Short Wheel Base, which is known to everyone as a ‘Transit’. There are two larger transit vans in the range, the Long Wheel Base, and the Jumbo, which gives a four-metre capacity. Nicola joined AM Hire after relocating from Sheffield. Working for many years with British Telecom in the transport department. Nicola decided she needed a new direction. Both Nicola and Sarah will ensure all our customers are given a friendly reception and stress free hire. 
Will has spent many years working for big national rental companies, working through the ranks from valeter/car delivery, to garage management and then rental agent. Needing a fresh challenge, Will joined the team at A.M Hire in anticipation of the opening of the new branch at Gateshead. 
Has been with the company from the outset and makes sure that all vehicles are inspected, serviced, and road worthy to the highest standard. He is responsible for resolving any problems that customers have with a vehicle. 
Garage Manager, Gary Kilgour, leads the valeting team. Gary has been with the company for many years and is a solid workhorse. Gary and his team ensure all vehicles are cleaned to a very high standard and presented to customer’s satisfaction. Gary also makes sure the staff that are well looked after with numerous cuppa’s.
